Dougie Mac Appoints Medical Director

Dougie Mac is delighted to announce that Dr Emer Cunningham McKenna has been appointed to the role of Medical Director.

Emer has worked at Dougie Mac for more than 12 years, the last four years as the hospice’s Lead Consultant, overseeing the excellent care and support given to the hospice’s patients.

Having trained at The University College of Dublin, Emer began her formal training in palliative care in the Merseyside Training Scheme, qualifying as a Consultant in 2010.

Emer said, “Dougie Mac is a wonderful place and I’m honoured to work with such an inspirational group of people. The hospice feels like an extended family and we strive, as a collective effort, to make sure that the care we give is as excellent as it can be. I have always been very passionate about staff training and I will continue to oversee the training and mentoring of our future health care staff, helping to inspire those who are enthusiastic about palliative care.

“Dougie Mac has always been innovative and ambitious and, as Medical Director, I’m looking forward to working with the current Directors to develop the strategic vision of the hospice. My role will continue to oversee the care provided by the hospice, ensuring all governance and quality of care reaches the standards we desire. I’ll also continue to support our strategic alliances work closely with the new Integrated Care Boards.”

David Webster, Chief Executive of Dougie Mac, added, “I am delighted for Emer. She richly deserves this promotion to Medical Director at Dougie Mac, as she has been a driving force at the hospice in recent years, most notably throughout the Covid19 pandemic, where her tenacious, insightful leadership helped us contend with such an unpredictable period of rapid change.”
