The specialist care and support we provide to children, young adults and adults who are living with a life limiting or terminal illness is only possible because of the support and generosity from our community. Gifts in Wills contribute 15% of the overall income the hospice needs each year.
If you die without a Will, your estate will be distributed under the rules of intestacy, where a court and judge will decide what happens to your assets - which may not be what you want to happen.
Writing a Will ensures your wishes are carried out when you're no longer around.
Anyone over the age of 18 should write a Will. Your Will should then be updated in line with any changes in your life including having children, buying/moving house, getting married, divorced, change in financial status etc. to ensure it continues to reflect your wishes.
Your gift can be anything you choose, there are a few different types of gifts you may wish to think about:
Residuary gift – You may want to leave a percentage of your estate in your Will. This can range anywhere from 1% - 100%. For example, if the value of your estate totalled £100,000 and you pledged to leave Dougie Mac 1% of your estate, £1,000 would then be your gift to the hospice.
Pecuniary gift – You may want to leave a set amount of money in your Will. This can range anywhere from £500 - £500,000 plus.
Specific gift – You may want to leave a specific gift such as jewellery, artwork or shares.
