For several years Endon Jolly Boys (EJBs) have been raising monies for local charities by completing Coast to Coast bike rides.
Unfortunately, this regular outing stopped because of the pandemic, but in 2021 the boys decided to resurrect the event with an independently organised ride from Carlisle to Edinburgh. Stanton’s of Stoke supported the team with transport for this ride and the Endon Jolly Boys raised just over £3,000 for Dougie Mac.
With a new route for 2022, in early September the EJBs cycled from Amlwch on Anglesey back to Endon raising a further £3,800 for Dougie Mac.
Sadly 2022 also threw a devastating curve ball when Tim Weaver, a founding member of the Endon Jolly Boys, lost his wife Deborah to cancer. Deb spent her last few days at Dougie Mac, something the family are most grateful for.
In total admiration for the care Deb received, Tim and children, Jordan, Hope and Robyn, were spurred on to raise even more for Dougie Mac by arranging “Debs’ Golf Day” at Greenway Golf Club in late September.
The day ended with a raffle and auction and raised a phenomenal £6,000. Tim and the children would like to thank all those who donated money and prizes, took part in the day and supported in whatever capacity.
So, onto next year, another golf day in August and another bike ride in September. Gary Hockenhull, one of the founding members, said “It’s a privilege to be able to take part and an honour to do this for Deb and Dougie Mac.”
Angela Dawson, Senior Business and Community Fundraiser at Dougie Mac, said “We’re so grateful for the continued support and efforts of the Endon Jolly Boys, their commitment to raising money for Dougie Mac is fantastic. We’re also extremely grateful to Tim and his family for their phenomenal fundraising in memory of Deb, their support at such a difficult time has been incredible. “Dougie Mac relies enormously on the support of the local community who, through fundraising events like these, enable us to continue to care for families across our local area, when they need it the most.”
