Meet Jordan…

Jordan Sambrook was so grateful for the care Dougie Mac showed his beloved Nan that he decided to take on a Tough Mudder fundraising challenge for the charity – and even completed it after tearing the ligaments in his ankle towards the end of the challenge.

Jordan and four colleagues from Bet365 raised an astonishing £5,054.93 after completing the gruelling event in the summer having signed up when Dougie Mac began care for his Nan, Christine Clarke.

Sadly, Christine – who was diagnosed with cancer – passed away just five days before Jordan and the team completed the challenge, although she was told how much her grandson had raised for the hospice.

Jordan said: “My Nan was a volunteer in the Inpatients Unit for Dougie Mac pre-Covid and was the most wonderful woman. She was kind and caring and always put everyone before herself – she would help anyone and everyone.

“She was diagnosed with cancer on Valentine’s Day, 2024 – my mum Tracy’s birthday. Nan developed sepsis at the start of 2025 and following that a decision was made to withdraw the chemotherapy treatment she had been receiving and so she was admitted to Dougie Mac.

“As Nan had been a volunteer for Dougie Mac, it was her wish to go into the hospice where she spent two weeks being cared for before she died on July 1.

“The care my Nan received was amazing and the support we as a family got was fabulous. We were allowed to stay over with my Nan which meant a lot to be able to spend as much time as we could with her.

“Dougie Mac staff became like a little family to us – not only did the nurses take care of my Nan’s every need but they also checked in with us. They were polite, professional and just knew what to do every step of the way. The care was second-to-none and as a family we could take a step back and let Dougie Mac care for my Nan, meaning we could focus on just being with her.

“Knowing Nan wanted to be in the hospice was very reassuring and a big comfort for our family. We will always be grateful.”
