Proud Primrose, 7, planning third fundraiser for Dougie Mac

A seven-year-old schoolgirl is hoping to embark on her third fundraiser for Dougie Mac having already raised more than £1,300.

Primrose Cunliffe was just five when she decided to do a 20-mile charity bike ride in 2024. Then last August the daring youngster – along with mum, Zoe and Dad, Adam – climbed Mount Snowdon in Wales.

Now Primrose, who is a pupil at Newstead Primary School, is planning her third fundraiser for later this year – a triathlon.

She said: “I knew about Dougie Mac because we had an assembly where we were told all about the charity and that they look after adults and children and so I wanted to help them by raising money. My mum always says whatever money you raise, every little helps.”

Primrose started her fundraising journey with her 20-mile bike ride after learning how to ride her bike without stabilisers. Along with her dad, the pair rode from their Newstead home to Stone and back, raising £941.62. In August 2025, Primrose climbed Mount Snowdon and raised £359.43, having already ‘practiced’ on Scotland’s Ben A’an near to where her grandad lives.

She said: “When we climbed Snowdon, we set off at 7am and reached the summit about 10.30am, then we had lunch and came back down. It was quite challenging, but when we got to the top it was clear and sunny and was an amazing sight. It was much harder coming down than going up and I was quite tired but very happy and very proud of myself when I did it.”

She continued: “When I did my bike ride and then climbed Snowdon, I got a medal for each one but I’d like a third medal from Dougie Mac, so this year I’m hoping to do a triathlon. I’m planning on running around the park, then a bike ride and then swimming two lengths of the swimming pool. I’ll probably do it in the summer.”

Mum Zoe said: “As parents we are very, very proud of Primrose. People always ask us if we put pressure on her to do her fundraising, but we have never put pressure on her. Primrose is a very kind and helpful little girl who also thinks of others – it’s a natural quality she has got – so we are very, very proud that she has done the fundraising for Dougie Mac.”
