The ‘Rainbow Racers’ to take on Dougie Mac’s Colour Dash

Eight primary school pupils are swapping their uniforms for a splash of colour to raise funds for Dougie Mac.

The girls (and some of the mums!) are gearing up to take part in the Dougie Mac Colour Dash where they will join hundreds of other participants to walk, run, skip and dance their way through the 1km course.

The ‘Rainbow Racers’ was the brainchild of Laura Mottram whose dad, Brian, spent the last weeks of his life being looked after by Dougie Mac.

Laura’s daughter, Martha, encouraged her fellow pupils at All Saints’ CofE School, in Leek, to join her for the Colour Dash which is taking place at Wedgwood Cricket Club on Sunday, 1st June.

Laura explained: “My dad spent the last weeks of his life being looked after by Dougie Mac and at the time I was expecting Martha. We thought doing the Colour Dash with her friends from school would be a good way for them to raise funds for the charity – and have some fun.

“Martha came up with the name Rainbow Racers and went into school to ask if some of her friends would also take part, so there are eight of them – all aged eight and nine – joining in. They have raised more than £300 already and are very excited.”

Deborah Vickers, Head of Business and Event Fundraising said: “We are extremely grateful to the Rainbow Racers for signing up for the Colour Dash to help raise vital funds for Dougie Mac.

“Following on from the success of last year’s event, we want this year to be even bigger and better and so are encouraging everyone to sign up and take part. The event promises to be a fun day for families, friends and people of all ages and we would love to see you there to enjoy the fun and colour!”

“The money raised through registration fees and fundraising enables us to be there for local adults, young adults and children when they need us.”

The event is supported by BeeActive and registration costs just £8 for under 16s and £10 for adults.

For an additional £5 fee, participants can also join a high-energy 2-part assault course and have fun on a large bouncy castle which has been provided by BeeActive and is suitable for both children and adults.

There is also a ‘Dash ‘n’ Grab’ adrenaline adventure, inspired by the classic children’s game, Hungry Hippos, as well as a party-atmosphere with music, refreshments, stalls and games for the whole family.
