Dougie Mac launches recruitment drive for trustees to help shape future of hospice

Here at Dougie Mac, we make a difference to the lives of people living with a life-limiting illness in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.

Dougie Mac – like every charity in the UK – has a Board of Trustees which is a group of people who volunteer their time to oversee our work and to ensure we are well-run, compliant, financially stable and are fulfilling the charity objectives.

All of our Trustees help shape the future of Dougie Mac and each bring with them a wealth of knowledge. To strengthen the breadth of expertise, we are now inviting applications to join our Board.

We are seeking individuals who share our commitment to our values — Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence — and who can bring insight, challenge and support to help us deliver our vision of being a centre of excellence in palliative and end-of-life care.

The Board requires a broad mix of skill, experience, specialisms and attributes to achieve the efficient and effective governance of the organisation. Trustees need the knowledge, experience, aptitude and commitment to make a significant contribution to the Board.

The hospice allows for six to 15 trustees at any one time and we are committed to building a diverse Board that reflects the community we serve.

Chair of Trustees Sue Evans, said: “As a Trustee of Dougie Mac, you will play a key role in ensuring the hospice is well-governed, financially resilient and able to meet the needs of our community now and in the future.

“This is a voluntary role that requires integrity, sound judgement, teamwork and a genuine commitment to supporting excellent hospice care.”

Strong local connections in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire would be especially valuable and Trustees are expected to attend four Board meetings a year as well as two to four sub-committee meetings per year, the organisations AGM and the Annual Trustee Away Day.

All Trustees must be prepared to put in an appropriate time to the hospice, which includes regular attendance at and being well-prepared for meetings, presence at appropriate hospice events and providing support to the Executive Team as required.
