Dougie Mac unveils new patient database

Dougie Mac has introduced a new electronic patient record database to improve care for thousands of patients across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.

The launch of the new system, called SystmOne, has been the largest IT project ever undertaken by Dougie Mac, with teams working on the development for over 12 months.

SystmOne is a spine-enabled system that will give Dougie Mac potential access to the summary care record (SCR) for its patients. For the first time it will be possible for the hospice to access critical care information such as sensitivities including allergies, current medication and repeat medication lists without the need to contact GP surgeries directly.

It will also give access to the demographic information via the Patient Demographic Service (PDS) allowing Dougie Mac to maintain an accurate record for its patients and to be able to feed into the PDS record for a patient should they provide new contact details.

This increase in connectivity will enable Dougie Mac to provide a seamless service for its patients, as well as enhance data access and analysis to support services’ development and quality improvement.

Sonya Turner, Head of Clinical Services at Dougie Mac, explained, “Our existing patient database was out of date and no longer suitable for Dougie Mac’s evolving needs. SystmOne is a contemporary system, that provides an increased level of interconnectivity with other healthcare providers and forms part of our ambitious plans to expand our services and provide excellent care for more people, of all ages, across our local community.

“Our patients are at the centre of everything we do. SystmOne gives us an opportunity to transform our patients’ experience as it ensures our clinical teams have real-time information from all the settings involved in their care. Being able to share information more effectively with our health and care partners will ensure that the professionals treating our patients, wherever they are, will have the most up to date information to provide them with the most appropriate care. What’s more, the information will be accessed faster than with paper or emailed records, so there is no delay to patient care.”

Dougie Mac are also incredibly grateful to Optimised Solution for their exceptional support in implementing the new database. Optimised Solution have been instrumental right from the beginning of the project by ensuring a smooth transition, providing invaluable face-to-face assistance and going above and beyond by offering out-of-hours support for Dougie Mac staff navigating the new system.
