Hair-raising challenge sees Dougie Mac healthcare worker and volunteer raise more than £2,000 for the hospice

A healthcare worker and a volunteer at Dougie Mac Hospice are braving the cold after shaving their heads to raise vital funds for the charity.

Michelle Jones, who works within Dougie Mac’s Dementia Services, joined forces with friend and fellow hospice volunteer Janet Lear for the fundraising challenge at the Blurton-based hospice. Together, the pair have raised more than £2,000 to support the charity’s work.

Michelle, who dyed her hair yellow and purple ahead of the event, said: “Janet wasn’t keen on doing a skydive, and with my dodgy knee ruling out running, we decided shaving our heads was the next best thing to raise money for the hospice.

“As well as working and volunteering here, we’ve both had family and friends cared for by the charity—both in the hospice and at home—so raising vital funds was something we really wanted to do together.”

The pair took on the challenge in the reception area of Dougie Mac, cheered on by staff and visitors.
