Former Vale striker scores Lottery Jackpot

When retired footballer Mick Cullerton received a call to say he’d scooped Dougie Mac’s £6,500 Lottery Jackpot, his family questioned whether it was a scam.

Mick, who played for the Valiants from 1965 to 1969 and again from 1975 to 1978, also scored more than 200 goals as a player for Stafford Rangers, has played Dougie Mac’s weekly Lottery for more than ten years.

Mick said: “Someone knocked our door years ago promoting Dougie Mac’s Lottery and it was actually someone we knew, so we had a good chat and signed up. We’ve won a couple of prizes since then, but nothing huge. To be honest we didn’t really notice the money coming out each month and kind of forgot about it.

“When Donna from Dougie Mac rang to say we’d won the £6,500 jackpot I couldn’t really take it in, I was shocked. We text our son and daughter and my son replied to say ‘are you sure it’s not a scam?’

“We’re going to treat our children and grandchildren to something they wouldn’t normally buy for themselves – so I believe our granddaughters are already looking at designer handbags.

“We’ll carry on playing Dougie Mac’s Lottery as it’s good to support a charity where we can see the money making a difference. It’s a well-known local charity and we know where the money is going. Over the years we’ve known people who have been cared for by Dougie Mac and it’s a charity we’ve always supported.”
