Dougie Mac’s TreeCycle is Back!

As households across the City begin to put up their Christmas decorations, Dougie Mac is planning ahead to the end of the festive season with the launch of its popular Christmas TreeCycle.

The initiative gives households the opportunity to easily recycle their Christmas trees while supporting Dougie Mac’s specialist care and support services. Last year Dougie Mac’s volunteers collected more than 1,600 Christmas trees from post codes across the area, generating more than £28,000 for the hospice.

An army of volunteers will once again collect trees over the weekend of 10th – 13th January 2025 from the following post codes: ST1, ST2, ST3, ST4, ST5, ST6, ST7, ST8, ST9, ST10, ST11, ST12, ST13, TF9 and CW3. The trees will then be recycled and turned into compost by Brown Recycling Limited.

Deborah Vickers, Head of Business and Events Fundraising at Dougie Mac, said, “Our Christmas TreeCycle takes away the hassle and mess of disposing of your tree – we’ll collect it from your house and recycle it in an environmentally friendly way. We can collect trees from homes, businesses, schools and churches in the relevant postcode areas, all you need to do is register your tree and make a donation on our website. Then simply leave your tree outside your registered address on the weekend of 10th-13th January and we’ll take it away.

“In exchange for collecting your tree, we just ask for a donation to support our specialist care services, enabling us to be there for more children, young adults and adults, as well as their families, when they need us. For example a donation of £20 could pay for pain relief medication for patients at a time when they most need it. So you really are making a difference.”

To find out more about Dougie Mac’s TreeCycle, make a donation and register your tree, visit www.dougiemac.org.uk/tree-collection . Trees must be registered before 11.59pm on Monday 6th January.

Dougie Mac’s Tree-Cycle wouldn’t be possible without an army of volunteers. If you, or your business, has a big van and some willing volunteers who can help to collect trees, or maybe offer supplies or refreshments to the other volunteers, Dougie Mac would love to hear from you.
