Radio presenters to release Christmas single to raise money for Dougie Mac

Two radio presenters are releasing a Christmas single to raise money for Dougie Mac.

Glyn Gant, from Leek and Steve Lewis, from Market Drayton – known as Pick & Mix – are hoping to raise money for the hospice by releasing their song ‘Christmas Ain’t the same Without Woolworths’.

Glyn and Steve who present The Saturday Show on local community station The Cat, are raising money for Dougie Mac after the team cared for Glyn’s sister-in-law Sam Gant who died after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Glyn said: “The idea of writing and performing a Christmas single started about ten years ago and then went on the back burner until a couple of years ago. It’s a fun song reminiscing about the good old days when you could shop in Woolworths and get everything you need – from pick & mix to a pair of pants.

“It’s brimming with festive spirit and a touch of 70’s style charm. Whether you grew up dancing to Christmas hits on cassette or spent your pocket money on stocking fillers, this song is a warm reminder of Christmases gone by — and the importance of community today.”

The song – which includes references to ‘pick & mix, quality street, retro games and top 40 records – has been recorded and produced by Lee Platt at his studios in the Staffordshire Moorlands and also features Glynn’s wife Julie and his son Dan on guitar.

Glyn continued: “When my sister-in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer it was such a shock. She received care from Dougie Mac who were absolutely superb and helped my brother too. The whole family visited Sam in the hospice and even the family dog came to visit.

“We were all so in awe of the care my sister-in-law received and it is such a fantastic cause so that’s why we have decided donate all the proceeds to Dougie Mac.”
