Sandon Primary Academy raises more than £38,000 for Dougie Mac

A local primary school has raised an incredible £38,190 for Dougie Mac following twelve months of phenomenal fundraising.

Sandon Primary Academy began fundraising for Dougie Mac in September 2023 when they set themselves a £10,000 target, but since then the remarkable support from the children, families and staff has seen them almost quadruple their initial target.

Over twelve months the school came up with imaginative and creative ways to raise money, including skydives, Snowdon treks, sponsored swims, raffles, cake sales, penny races, sporting fundraisers and Christmas jumper days.

The school has also taken part in Dougie Mac’s “Bag It, Bring It” initiative, which has seen families donate their unwanted clothes, shoes and accessories in charity bags. So far, more than 430 bags have been donated by Sandon Primary Academy with the retail value of the donated items adding more than £17,000 to their fundraising pot.

Rachel Beckett, Principal of Sandon Primary Academy, said, “When we first began our school partnership with Dougie Mac, we agreed a £10,000 target, which seemed fairly ambitious at the time. I could never have imagined that our whole school community would get behind our fundraising in such a fantastic way and I’m absolutely thrilled that we have been able to raise such a wonderful amount for our local hospice.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to our fundraising success. Whether you’ve donated items in a charity bag, joined one of our fundraising events or jumped out of an aeroplane, you’ve played a part in raising this money and we’re incredibly grateful for your support.”

On Thursday 3rd April, the Academy held a special event to celebrate their fantastic fundraising.

Samantha Holgate, Senior Youth and Schools Fundraiser at Dougie Mac, added, “Sandon Primary Academy are fantastic supporters of Dougie Mac and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they’ve done to raise this amazing amount of money.

“It’s been a pleasure to support the school, not only with their fundraising adventures, but also helping them to understand more about Dougie Mac and what we do. I’m looking forward to joining Mrs Beckett and the children to celebrate their success and say an enormous thank you on behalf of everyone at Dougie Mac.”
