Superstar Baker Raises Dough for Dougie Mac

Superstar baker Alex Hancock, 32, raised a fantastic £1,132 for Dougie Mac through a coffee and cake sale outside his family home in Newcastle.

Alex, who is 70% deaf and suffers from dyspraxia, spent days preparing for the sale, baking everything from scratch and producing a delicious selection of cakes, scones and fudge in different flavours to sell to his friends, family and neighbours.

He set up the sale outside his home and was overwhelmed by the demand, with people queuing up to try his sweet treats. Alex had hoped to raise £500 for Dougie Mac, but his delicious baking saw him smash his original target.

Last week Alex popped in to the hospice to hand over the money he raised and was congratulated on his fundraising success by David Webster, Chief Executive of Dougie Mac.

David said, “Alex is a wonderful supporter. He invested so much time and effort into making his cake sale a success and he’s raised a fantastic amount of money for the hospice. It was a pleasure to meet him last week and say thank you on behalf of everyone at Dougie Mac, and the local families who will benefit from his fundraising. Thank you Alex.”

Alex’s Mum, Gaynor, added, “I’m so proud of Alex and everything he’s achieved. He absolutely loves baking and worked so hard, he even went back in to the kitchen to bake more cakes throughout the day. I’d like to say thank you to everyone who supported his cake sale, especially our friends and family who gave up their time to help out.”
